Bad Bunny is more than just an Artist
From listening to his last album he made it clear the love he has for his roots …
When Bad Bunny first emerged I thought his style and music were strange. He was first considered to be a “Trap” artist, which was a style I was not into, being from a different generation. I still listen to it and can enjoy trap but it is not a personal preference of mine. Eventually, as his catalog grew and his style widened I took a liking to his music and even attended a few of his concerts with my friends.
Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio was born on March 10, 1994. He was in a school choir at 13 and gravitated towards singing, rapping, and songwriting. He made multiple hit albums before he earned a Grammy nomination for “Un Verano Sin Ti”, and is now enjoying success with his current album “Debi Tirar Mas FOtos”. Bad Bunny was interviewed by The New York Times recently in which he stated this is his favorite piece of work he put together.
His current album (DtMF) tackles multiple issues affecting Puerto Rico. He mentions the gentrification and displacement of its people implying there may be a Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans mirroring what took place in Hawaii and its native Hawaiians. He also discusses preserving culture, blending Puerto Rican instruments and genres such as Salsa, Jibaro, Plena, etc.
